The Parish Church of Saint Mary Langley

Langley, Maidstone ME17 3LZ, UK

History – In the early 1970’s the parish of St. John the Evangelist, Willington was united with Otham. Then in 1982 these two were joined with St. Mary, Langley to form the present parish of Otham with Langley. The parish now has a population of approximately 7,500. Langley’s Anglo-Saxon church was destroyed by fire and a new church was built during the 13th and 14th centuries. The Reverend William Bouverie Pusey, who became Rector in 1842 was not happy with the building and decided to construct a new church at his own expense on the foundations of the existing church which would be demolished. The new building was designed by William Butterfield and was dedicated in 1855. A toilet was built into the fabric in the 1990’s but apart from that the church has changed little since it was built.

St Michael's Church, Chart Sutton

Maidstone ME17 3RE, UK

A lovely friendly little church with a small congregation. It's a bit off the beaten track, but right at the bottom of our garden! Brilliant vicar, Fiona, who ministers to four churches. Once you've been to one of her special morning services, you will be looking forward to the next, I guarantee that . Beautiful stained glass windows.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Ulcombe

Castle View Restaurant at Leeds Castle

Castle View Restaurant, Leeds Castle, Maidstone ME17 1PL, UK – 01622 767777

Had a nice lunch here, it's good because we have small children, and we are able to wear them out well before we eat, making sitting still for an hour bearable for them. Limited menu, but all tastes good, and was fresh. Wasn't so keen on my baked potatoe being served in a tin as this made it difficult to cut, but not a big deal. Table was clean, and staff helpful.

This is a very nice restaurant indeed with old exposed red stock bricks and big Oak timber beamed roof. Like an old converted barn The food menu is medium expensive but all dishes were fantastic. Also ask for a window table as these offer a fantastic view of the castle when your dining

The Windmill

32 Eyhorne St, Hollingbourne, Maidstone ME17 1TR, UK – 01622 889000

I have visited The Windmill twice now. The first time was for a Sunday lunch, which was excellent, so I was excited to try them again for a midweek lunch. Booking was easy, I gave them a call an hour or so before we arrived. I appreciated that there was a car park, along with a nice sized garden (kids climbing area included). Upon entering, there was the bar and we were shown to our window table - where we could see the comings and goings of the village. The food was spectacular - a delicious main course of pork for me and steak for my partner. The desserts were excellent, including the cheese board (very generous serving). Oh, and do not forget to have the petit fours with the coffee! Definitely a place to go for a special lunch - or when you want to treat yourself!

I use to go to the Windmill regularly in the past but my visit last week was the first for a good few years. Despite it being a Saturday evening, being very busy and not booking we were found a place to sit near the bar. The service was also quick with any delay being due to the food being cooked to order ratther than being re-heated. Meal itself was good. Then why only award three stars? I think it has to do with what I expect from a meal in a public house. I am not unfamiliar with the idea of gastro pubs and the difference between the food served compared with normal pub 'fayre' . I am happy to pay for great food in small portions and good food in little larger portions. I am even happy with reasonable food at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, I am not convinced that the quality of the meal served along with its somewhat diminuative size (very neuveau) matched the price in terms of value for money. The meal was good not that good. Liver (even calf's liver) is not steak but Pancetta is bacon; and liver and bacon should be filling. Saying that, the Windmill and its menu appeared very popular with the others there, and at another time I may well have felt more satisfied. I will go again but I will now know what to expect. Phil

The Potting Shed

Horseshoes Ln, Langley, Maidstone ME17 3LZ, UK – 01622 862112

Amazing place. I remember when it was just a little pub on a busy road. Not so now. Huge extension and well looked after garden. Very busy on sunny days ... but wasn't kept waiting at all. Pizza was excellent and the dining area is huge. I like the fact that they have kept the original pub part too. Well worth a visit.

Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at The Potting Shed. It’s easy to find from the M20/A20. Food is prepared to a fine standard and presented really nicely. Relaxed, but not overly casual. We were celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary and were pleased we did so here. Staff are attentive but not overpowering. The menu is broad. And just little things like olives served at room temperature and a discerning list of gins, all adds to the experience. Would highly recommend

Every child has a unique journey through their education and my youngest child is now in his final year here at SVSP and he has spent the last four years here. He has blossomed with confidence, discovered new activities, interest and sports and he has achieved his best academically, positioning him well for his transition into the senior school. A child's education isn't a race, it is about making sure they are supported to enable them to learn and achieve at a pace they they are happy and confident with and the teaching staff are fantastic in supporting all children.

The best school in Kent. Excellent facilities and teachers. We are very happy with this school and happily recommend it.

Sutton Valence Primary School

6 Southways, Sutton Valence, Maidstone ME17 3HT, UK – 01622 842188

I left have left the school this year, the teachers were all so supportive, and I couldn't have asked for a better 7 years of education. The only thing I didn't like was that in my last year a lot of arguments went on, which made it less enjoyable. Thank you so much SVPS! Good luck in the future!

i have LOVED my time at sutton valence. its hard to say what my true highlights are, one that particularly stands out is... meeting the love of my life, Georgie Mancais. despite being the rugby co-captain, i wouldn't of been able to do it without my Georgie porgy by my side. Its fair to say, I've been the 'jack the lad' throughout my SV life, but i happily give that up for georgie porgy. however, third form was tough, breaking up with Kat, but now I'm on a home run in the love department!

This school really is brilliant, I am a new student and the community has welcomed me. At my previous school I got bullied on a daily basis and after moving i have experienced no bullying however the other boys in my year keep going on about my sister, which I guess is understandable (she's really pretty!!). At the moment I'm just enjoying the SV life and I'm just happy to be part of the school. For me, SVS is a new era that stands before me, waiting to be written. Hopefully one day I can make friends of my own and maybe get a girlfriend. I guess theres something I've been wanting to get off my chest melissa dawson will you go to the ball with me!! thats feels better now.
